7-18 May 2024 Cargèse, Corsica (France)

The Center

The Southern Ocean Summer School 2024 will be hosted in Corsica in the small village of Cargèse at the Institut d’Etudes Scientifiques de Cargèse (IESC)

What scientists find and appreciate at IESC is an exceptional geographical environment, a remarkable human environment, and an ideal working environment. Indeed, it's hard to imagine a better setting than the buildings nestling harmoniously in a cove near the pleasant village of Cargèse. But beyond the idyllic setting, researchers know they can count on the Institute's competent and dedicated staff to make their stay as pleasant as possible.

The IESC is internationally recognized for the scientific quality of its program. Scientists of excellence, including Nobel, Lasker and Fields Prize winners, regularly organize or take part in meetings held at the IESC. Nobel laureate Georges Charpak has been a regular participant, participating in the Institute's activities from the outset.

Accommodations and fees

The selected students will be hosted on site in shared double rooms. The registration fee for attending the school is 650 € which will cover all cost except travels and dinners. For dinner, participants will organise themselves to eat in the village of Cargèse and associated costs will have to be covered by participants.

Travel to the centre

Participants are expected to organise their own travel to Cargèse. Cargèse can be reached via Ajaccio by ferry or plane.  Buses from Ajaccio Harbour or Airport will be organised by the Centre. In an endeavour to limit the carbon footprint of the school, the organising committee is trying to coordinate a sailboat alternative from the south of France (to be confirmed).
